Last Sunday’s Gospel…
We heard one of the stories that showed Jesus had truly risen from the dead. Jesus cooked breakfast for the apostles on the beach while they were out fishing. They hadn’t had any luck but when Jesus told them to cast the net again, they caught so many they couldn’t pull them all in. The story shows that we continually need to be guided by Jesus and that he was really alive because he could physically touch things and talk to them.
From the Principal...
I set out from my home at 4am on ANZAC Day to attend the dawn service at Ingleburn RSL and lay a wreath on behalf of the school. Our school captains, vice captains and their families attended as well and represented Holy Family. I very much appreciate the effort of our captains and their families attending in full school uniform so early in the morning! We had a little rain in the end but it was worth it.
The children have probably told you the rest of our furniture arrived. So Years 4-6 were busy for the first hour of the first day back settling K-2 with their new desks and chairs. The library has also been set up with new soft furnishings, tables and bookshelves. The P&F have kindly covered the cost of reupholstering the ottomans, the wall paper murals and a special teacher reading chair for the library – still to come. You are welcome to pop in for a look when you pick up your children. You will also notice the upgrade to the rest of our wet areas. The space is now more serviceable and the children seem very excited about all their new things. The books the P&F donated for classroom libraries are due next week too. Dion from QBD book shop at Macarthur Square was extremely helpful! Next we will restock the library with books and have a look at the school’s technological requirements again. I would also like to mention the efforts of Mrs Jones. Our old furniture has gone to Tonga where the community has suffered from the effect of the recent tsunami thanks to Mrs Jones and her parish. So her effort, along with Ms Stroligo making contact with various community groups for our Years 3-6 furniture means at least 80% has been fully recycled!
We have had Kinder interviews this week. It has been a lovely experience to meet our potential Kinder class of 2023. We have met a lot of new families so our Holy Family family keeps getting bigger! If you haven’t put in an application, please do so as soon as possible because it looks like we will fill our classes easily and once offers go out, we can’t take places back again. Fr Henry has been meeting families throughout the interview time and it has been wonderful to have him working with us.
Our new website is up and running. Please take some time to have a look at it and let us know if there are any problems with it. We can’t change things at school but we can make contact with the people at our head office who can fix things quickly!
I look forward to seeing you at our Mother’s Day liturgy on Friday!
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe

Our current fortnightly focus has been focusing on how students can be safe, respectful and responsible at Monday Morning flag raising. Students will be able to model the school rules each Monday when they attend their flag raising.
Last week students began working towards their token reward. At the commencement of Week 1 each class chose a number of tokens to work towards and a reward. Students receive tokens when teachers can see them modelling positive behaviours.

Please give our school Facebook page a like. We regularly upload photos of students through this platform and would love to keep our school community updated. Select the link for Holy Family, Ingleburn Facebook page.

Mothers Day
Each class teacher is preparing for Mothers Day…we pray that every mother and mother figure has a wonderful day on Sunday. We also pray for those mothers who are no longer with us.
May, Month of the Month Dedicated to Mary
May is the month dedicated to Mary, whom we honour as the Mother of God. We/recognise Mary as the one who listened and responded to the call of God. On the 24th of May we honour Mary Our Lady of Help Christians, the Patron Saint of Australia.
This month we particularly encourage the praying of the Rosary, a prayer that is special in the Catholic tradition.
If you are interested in praying the rosary, there are some great websites and youtube clips including:

This Sunday’s Gospel Reading Reflection from LiturgyHelp
This Sunday’s Gospel reading focuses on Jesus as the Good Shepherd. The image of the shepherd with his flock is filled with constant care and protection. Jesus is promising these things to us if we only follow him. He is also asking us to listen to his voice. His flock responds to his call because it is a love-filled call. We only need to listen and we also will hear the call from Jesus. This call will bring us eternal love and salvation. Some questions you could discuss with your children…
Was Jesus just talking about sheep?
What was Jesus telling us?
What does it mean to be one of the sheep that Jesus looked after?
Would he take good care of them?
So, is he telling us that he will always look after us?
What are some things a sheep in this special flock would do?
What are some things we need to do to be followers of Jesus?
n the gospel reading Jesus told us that his sheep listen to his voice. If we are his sheep then how do we listen to his voice?
Australian Taekwondo National Championships
Ethan D and Chloe Z, two of our Year 5 students travelled to Brisbane in April to compete in the National Taekwondo Championships.
In 2019, Ethan was the national champion and missed out on two years of no competition due to COVID. This year he had a stacked division, reaching and winning the quarter finals and unfortunately, lost in the semi finals. He got a bronze medal which is 3rd in Australia in his division, which is a wonderful achievement.
Chloe was uncontested in her division (meaning she had no competitors at the same level) so she could have just taken the gold medal without having to fight. But she said, “I will never take a medal without fighting for it”, so she made the decision to compete in the higher weight division and she did so well placing 5th in Australia, which is also a fantastic achievement.
Ethan also competed in the Gold Coast Taekwondo Open on the last weekend in April. He competed in two divisions 10-11 yr boys red belt and black belt divisions.
Ethan won gold in the red belt boys divisions (his primary division). Ethan also stepped up to the black belt division and also won gold. He is currently a red belt and fought against boys who are all black belts and more experienced. Congratulations Ethan!
We are really proud of both Ethan and Chloe!

Transport NSW Campaign – Bus Flashing Lights
The Bus Flashing Lights is a quarterly state-wide campaign from Transport NSW to remind motorists that they must: 'Slow down to 40 when bus lights flash'.
The Bus Flashing Lights campaign will run in Term 2.
The bus flashing lights messaging has been incorporated into the wider School Zones campaign at the beginning of each school term since 2018.
Key reminders include:
- Lights flash on buses to warn motorists that buses are picking up and dropping off children
- Motorists must slow down to 40km/h when overtaking or passing a bus displaying flashing lights
Motorists can help keep children safe by:
- Sticking to the speed limit and following the road rules in school zones
- Slowing down to 40km/h when bus lights are flashing
- Looking out for children crossing the road near bus stops, in school zones, or along bus routes
- Giving way to buses when they merge back into traffic
Key messages for families include:
- Families have an important part to play in keeping children safe around roads
- Never drop off or meet your child on the opposite side of the road to the bus stop or call them across the road – always drop them off or meet them on the same side of the road as the bus stop
- Remind your children to always wait until the bus has gone before choosing a safe place to cross the road
The Bus flashing lights – Communications Toolkit provides a variety of ways to be involved in this campaign including useful websites, e-newsletters, and social media platforms along with a variety of posters and brochures flyers schools can purchase free of charge.
