Australian Taekwondo National Championships
Ethan D and Chloe Z, two of our Year 5 students travelled to Brisbane in April to compete in the National Taekwondo Championships.
In 2019, Ethan was the national champion and missed out on two years of no competition due to COVID. This year he had a stacked division, reaching and winning the quarter finals and unfortunately, lost in the semi finals. He got a bronze medal which is 3rd in Australia in his division, which is a wonderful achievement.
Chloe was uncontested in her division (meaning she had no competitors at the same level) so she could have just taken the gold medal without having to fight. But she said, “I will never take a medal without fighting for it”, so she made the decision to compete in the higher weight division and she did so well placing 5th in Australia, which is also a fantastic achievement.
Ethan also competed in the Gold Coast Taekwondo Open on the last weekend in April. He competed in two divisions 10-11 yr boys red belt and black belt divisions.
Ethan won gold in the red belt boys divisions (his primary division). Ethan also stepped up to the black belt division and also won gold. He is currently a red belt and fought against boys who are all black belts and more experienced. Congratulations Ethan!
We are really proud of both Ethan and Chloe!
