Last Sunday’s Gospel…
We celebrated the Ascension last Sunday – when Jesus went to heaven after completing His mission on earth. He had done the job He came to do, brought people back to God and conquered death, showing He was God and that we can all share eternal life. He gave the disciples a big job before He left and it is in turn our job. To spread His message of Good News across the world to all people so everyone can share in His love.
From the Principal...
Year 6 went to Canberra last week and had a wonderful time visiting places like Parliament House, the War Memorial and Questacon to name a few. They were a credit to you all in the way they behaved and let their teachers get some sleep! I am very grateful to the teachers for giving up their own time to enable the students to have these special experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives. I know you are too.
With the very cold weather feel free to allow your children to wear gloves, scarves and beanies to school if you wish. They do not need to be in school colours. The children take them off when they go into the warm classrooms so having their name on them would be helpful. They still need their school hats for playtime because beanies don’t provide the sun protection.
We have very few cases of Covid at the moment but the flu is starting to hit us quite hard. A large number of staff and students are affected and it seems both need quite a few days to get over it – it’s not just a couple. Please make sure you keep your children at home if they are not well. It will help them recover quickly and help prevent the spread at school. I thank you for your continual support of our school and the requests we make. It certainly makes Holy Family a wonderful place to work! And thank you for your support in keeping your children home last Friday if you could.
We are looking forward to the Athletics Carnival on Monday especially after missing them the last two years! Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. A great deal of planning has gone into making the day successful and it will be good for us all to get out together and have some fun!
God Bless,

Greetings and many blessings to you all. The month of May and June are special months in the life of the Church. I invite you all to talk to your children about how they are celebrating the special days at school.
Mary Help of Christians Feast Day
Last week we celebrated Mary Help of Christians Feast Day. She is the patron saint of Australia. During war times, Catholics are encouraged to pray to Mary for help. Many Catholics would pray to Mary during early settlement time when they were not allowed to celebrate a Catholic Mass.
Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Our parish has been preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation with preparation classes taking place every week over the last month.
The children will be making their first confession on Friday night and Saturday morning. We pray for the children as they make their final preparations.
Mass
Please see the calendar on the newsletter for Parish Mass times that each grade is invited to attend. You are more than welcome to attend these Masses.
** Tuesday 7th June Year 5 and Kindy will attend Mass at 9am together.
** Tuesday 14th June Year 2 and Year 3 will attend Mass at 9am together.
** Tuesday 21st June Year 5 and Year 6 will attend Mass at 9am together.

Pentecost Sunday
On Sunday we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. On this day we celebrated the receiving of the Holy Spirit by the early Church. Sydney Catholic Schools has kindly shared a prayer resource for us to use at home as well:

Podcast: Ripples
Ripples is a PODCAST developed for staff and parents on-going spiritual formation. It seeks to offer a space where people can draw on the wisdom of a series of guest speakers and can experience some treasured stillness through meditation. See the link - you can either download the files as podcasts or listen to them directly from the website.
This is the first Sunday after Pentecost, and celebrates the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. On this day Christians worship God and give thanks for everything the Trinity has done to save our sins.
This Week’s intended Mass Readings Reflection (Adapted from LiturgyHelp)
Sunday’s reading from Acts described the physical sounds, sights and feelings that were felt with the out pouring of the Holy Spirit. Those present were filled with the Spirit, they began to speak in other languages, a feat that could only have some supernatural origin. The crowd that gathered was confused, astonished and amazed. It was clearly a manifestation of the universal presence and power of the Spirit. The outpouring of the Spirit and the preaching of the Gospel to all nations are considered the reuniting of the human race and the gathering of all into the reign of God.
Some great discussion starters you could have with your children could include:
Today we celebrate the coming of the Spirit. Who do you know that is a Spirit-filled person?
What sort of things show that a person is Spirit-filled?
Let us ask the Holy Spirit to come into our hearts so that we may be Spirit filled.
The Bible was written in three languages- Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew!
Can you answer this question?
Our current fortnightly focus has been on Friendship Areas that are on each playground. Students are encouraged to use the Friendship Area on each playground if they may like to play with a friend. These areas will provide a space where students could come and go when they are feeling anxious, lonely and would like a friend to play with.
Just a reminder about a few things:
- Girls earrings.- Earrings can only be a silver/gold ball stud (no stones) or sleeper/hoop earrings that can be rotated through the ear (no clips). Please see the image below.
Teachers will be awarding stickers to students who are wearing the correct uniform including earrings.

Year 6 headed towards Canberra on Thursday the 26th of May. After the 3 hour bus drive, we arrived at the War Memorial mind blown at the stunning sight of the building. Us students had the opportunity to expand our knowledge on the many soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us. We continued to learn about the First and Second World War through the ANZAC parade. After Year 6 completed their tour of the ANZAC parade, we arrived at AIS and got to undertake many sport activities. These included basketball and soccer penalty shoot outs. Later that day, we prepared to go to Questacon, a place of science. At Questacon, we experienced different levels of an earthquake, saw a lightning strike in action and took part in many other fun activities!. On day two,our first stop was the Old Parliament House, where we were educated about the voting system. We then drove past the Lodge to the Parliament House. We acted in a role play and was provided with a tour of The House of Representatives and The Senate. After touring the Parliament House, we headed back home.
Year 6 was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the attractions in Canberra.

Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding for students under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion....The rebate is $30@student.
Holy Family - Walk Safely to School Day 2022
Friday, May 20th was Walk Safely to School Day. This day is now in its 23rd year, and is an annual event when all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
We were very impressed that 95 students walked all the way, or part of the way, rode their bikes, or caught a bus to school!
If you couldn’t participate this year, then get ready for next year!
Congratulations Holy Family!
The uniform shop will be open Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, 2.30pm - 3.15pm.
Please remember it is cash only - no EFTPOS facilities are available.
