Year 6 Canberra Trip
Year 6 headed towards Canberra on Thursday the 26th of May. After the 3 hour bus drive, we arrived at the War Memorial mind blown at the stunning sight of the building. Us students had the opportunity to expand our knowledge on the many soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us. We continued to learn about the First and Second World War through the ANZAC parade. After Year 6 completed their tour of the ANZAC parade, we arrived at AIS and got to undertake many sport activities. These included basketball and soccer penalty shoot outs. Later that day, we prepared to go to Questacon, a place of science. At Questacon, we experienced different levels of an earthquake, saw a lightning strike in action and took part in many other fun activities!. On day two,our first stop was the Old Parliament House, where we were educated about the voting system. We then drove past the Lodge to the Parliament House. We acted in a role play and was provided with a tour of The House of Representatives and The Senate. After touring the Parliament House, we headed back home.
Year 6 was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the attractions in Canberra.

Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding for students under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion....The rebate is $30@student.
