Last Sunday’s Gospel...
We heard the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus last Sunday. It is usually a Gospel reading we hear in Lent because the Feast is celebrated on the day it falls rather than always on a Sunday. It happened not long before Jesus was to make his final entrance into Jerusalem. With a few of his apostles, Jesus went to the top of a mountain and there the apostles saw the divinity of Jesus as well as the human form they were used to seeing. The voice of God also was heard proclaiming Jesus as His Son. Moses’ and Elijah’s appearance showed Jesus was fulfilling all the prophesies of the Old Testament. Jesus and his apostles were strengthened by this event to be able to face what was to come.
Many of the students have been out and about in the community over the last couple of weeks. Our Captains, Ethan and Chloe, joined Mrs Smith and I at the Annual Catholic Club Mass two Sundays ago. We are to receive a grant from the Catholic Club and I will let you know about that when I have more information. We have also had a soccer gala day, the regional Athletics carnival and the Year 2 excursion. At all events our students conducted themselves exceptionally well. I thank the staff who have an extra workload in organising these events and the students for making it so easy to take them out. We are very proud of our Holy Family school! Thank you also parents and carers, because when we have the same expectations of our children – being respectful and kind, that consistency helps to teach the students. Our athletes did very well and we have some going on to trials for the MacKillop state level teams.
Please remember that you need to have picked up your students by 3.05pm. We have a lot of students still waiting at 3.15pm and even quite a few at 3.30pm. Please book your children into OOSH. It is not fair that some parents have to pay for this and others don’t, nor that staff have to do extra duties caring for your children. CatholicCare have increased the number of places available so please make contact with them. Of course, I am not speaking about unexpected events. We know that happens. Please just give the office a call so we know you will be late and can let your children know.
Please remember to come to the P&F Meeting on Friday if you can. It is very helpful to be able to talk through things with parents so we can make our school better together.
Book Week is coming up! You will see more detail below. Please don’t feel you have to spend a lot of money on costumes for your children. Sometimes the simplest ones are the most effective. We are looking forward to a happy time!
As I write, the fence is being removed from the playground after all the final safety inspections have been completed. We are very excited! The students will be taken out for extra play time in class groups to be shown how to use the equipment safely (we are planning on avoiding injuries if possible!), and classes will also be assigned playtimes. We know it will be very popular at first. A staff member will be assigned duty at the playground each break. Once the students have had lots of turns and the novelty has worn off a little, we will be able to reduce the need for a roster type system.

Please continue to keep Christian S and his family in your prayers and thank you for all the kind messages. I have passed them on to Christian’s Dad. Year 6 are doing well too from our point of view. If you are aware of anyone who may need some extra support, including your own children, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
