Pentecost
As a Church, we celebrated Pentecost last Sunday. Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season. It is a memorial of the day the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles and the Virgin Mary in the form of fiery tongues, an event that took place fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus.
The Scriptures remind us that Pentecost is the gift of the Holy Spirit and is something to be shared with others and moves us to action and to spread the Good News to all we encounter.
Congratulations!
We congratulate Ms Maxfield and her family on the joyous news of the safe arrival of their beautiful baby Elena! Everyone is doing well and we look forward to having them visit our school when Elena is a little older. We know you all continue to keep them in their prayers as they enjoy these precious early days!
Year 6 went to Canberra last week and had a wonderful time visiting places like Parliament House, the War Memorial, National Art Gallery, The Australian Museum and Questacon to name a few. They were a credit to you all in the way they behaved and let their teachers get some sleep! I am very grateful to Ms Ferderer, Ms Florio, Mr Sajdovski and Ms Namrood for giving up their own time to enable the students to have these special experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives. I know you are too.

Weather Update
With the very cold weather feel free to allow your children to wear gloves, scarves and beanies to school if you wish. They do not need to be in school colors. The children take them off when they go into the warm classrooms so having their name on them would be helpful. They still need their school hats for playtime because beanies don’t provide sun protection.
This week the Church celebrates many important events; Mary, Mother of the Church, The Visitation and the Most Holy Trinity.
Pentecost is known as the birth of the Church. We know that Mary is the Mother of God and Christ is described as the Head of the Church. Followers of Christ are described as the Body of the Church. As Mary is the Mother of Christ, and Christ is head of the Church, then Mary is the Mother of the Church. Mary is one of the central figures to bridge the gap between Jesus and the path of the Church. Following Jesus’ ascension into Heaven, Mary prayed with the disciples and was present with them when the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost.
Click on the link to watch the story of The Visitation as a family. This video retells the story of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth after the Annunciation. Prayers such as the Angelus and Hail Mary come from these stories.
Each year on the first Sunday after Pentecost we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, also known as Trinity Sunday. The whole of the Church’s life flows from the central belief that the one true God exists as three divine Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

PB4L Focus - Playgrounds

Our current fortnightly focus is how students can be safe, respectful and responsible while playing on the playgrounds throughout the school during break times. Students were reminded that they are to play no competitive/formal ball games, e.g. games that have organised teams and keep scores. They are encouraged to play games that involve catching, kicking or throwing drills.
Kindergarten students are now able to play on the netball court and shelter/astroturf area, with the grass area near the netball court reserved only for Kindergarten students. All students were reminded that are to play with students in their own grade, and/or one grade up or down, e.g. Year 3 students can play with Year 2 and Year 4 students.
Last week Year 6 ventured off to the ACT, Canberra! The bus ride to Canberra was filled with whispers of excitement and a cheer as we crossed the border. The rest of the morning was very informative as students were intrigued by the enormity of Phar Lap’s heart at the Australian Museum. We then travelled off to the Australian War Memorial and students were invited to pay their respects. During this time students also toured the World War I collection and saw Japanese fighter aeroplanes and learnt the story of how they ended up in Australia! Moving along through the afternoon, we had a relaxing stroll through the National Gallery of Australia, where students viewed Jackson Pollock’s ‘Blue Poloes’.
To end our day we settled into our accommodation but not before our quest to Questacon! You may have heard lots about their time here and teachers were surely running around trying to keep up with all that it had to offer. Students were immersed in interactive activities and invited to drop from the giant green slide.
After a well-deserved sleep, we left for Parliament House where students negotiated a Bill to play sport 2 hours a week. Thank you to all our students who participated in getting this very important Bill to pass!
A very big thank you to all staff who helped out in the organising of this special excursion, we would also like to thank all the families for ensuring all students were prepped and ready. And finally, a very big thank you to our Year 6 cohort, we really hope you enjoyed it very much and created some great memories.
Year 6 Students from our school has recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students where given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
