Last night I had the privilege of attending the Association of Catholic School Principals in NSW Conference Mass and Dinner. Mass was celebrated by Bishop Brian Mascord at St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Wollongong. Bishop Brian challenged us as leaders of Catholic schools to be bearers of Christ’s love and to be sacraments of hope.
This week’s scriptures remind us just how important this is too. They remind us to wait united in prayer. Prayer is not a waste of time. The Holy Spirit will bring us the joy and peace that we cannot find in this world. In order to move forward towards a hopeful future, we must let go of things that hold us back. We can do this through celebrating the Eucharist, prayer and by trusting in our Lord’s guidance as we live our lives.
Our challenge to bring the light of Christ to all, through our relationship with Jesus, is one we take seriously and one we hope permeates our school community. Let us take up this challenge together as we work in partnership and relationship with each other so that your children, our children, find meaning and purpose in their lives and strive for excellence in their learning.
Semester One Academic Reports
Year 1 - 6 academic reports will be made available via Compass on Friday of Week 9 this term. Term 2 parent/ teacher conferences will take place during Week 10. More information regarding these conferences will be made available in the coming weeks. If, at any time, you would like to make contact with your child’s teacher about any aspect of school life, please contact the office and an appointment can be made.
Walk Safely to School Day
Today was national Walk Safely to School Day. We were so impressed with the number of families who made the effort to walk all or part of the way to school. There were many smiling faces as I met a number of families at the top of the laneway. It was a wonderful way to start the day. Walk Safely to School Day is a wonderful opportunity to:
- encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
- promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.
- ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
- help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
- reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults.
- promote the use of Public Transport.
- reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
- reduce the level of traffic congestion.
St Benedict’s Feast Day Save the Date:
As a school founded by the Good Samaritan Sisters of the Order of St Benedict, we celebrate the Feast of St Benedict each year. It is a day to give thanks for our school community and to celebrate.
We usually celebrate with a whole school Mass and other celebrations. As the feast day is July 11th and in the school holidays, this year, we will celebrate on Friday, 23rd June (Friday Week 9), so please save the date! More information is to follow in the coming weeks.
Next week the Church celebrates two important events; Pentecost and the Feast of Mary Help of Christians.
Pentecost is a celebration of the Holy Spirit’s descent upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus. It is known as the birth of the Church.

The Feast of Mary Help of Christians is celebrated on May 24. The infant church in Australia had a special reason for turning to Mary. No priests were sent to the colony in its early days and Mass was not allowed except for one brief year until 1820. It was largely the Rosary in those early days that kept the faith alive. Catholic Australia remained faithful to Mary and was the first nation to choose her under the title Help of Christians, as principal Patroness.
Almighty God, deepen in our hearts
our love of Mary Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection,
may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women
of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.

PB4L Focus - Friday Afternoon Assembly

Our current fortnightly focus is how students can be safe, respectful and responsible when attending ‘Whole School Assembly’ on Friday afternoons. Teachers have taken the time to explicitly revise the expectations students are to follow when present at assembly, including following the 5L’s, respectfully partaking in the National Anthem and prayer, and accepting awards with pride. Students are also reminded to walk to and from assembly in two quiet lines, following the instructions of their teacher.
Friday 19th May, 2023 is Walk Safely to School Day.
Our students have been encouraged to try to walk to school this Friday the 19th May, 2023. If families live too far away, they are encouraged to park a few streets away and walk part of the way to school.
