Dear Parents/Carers,
This Sunday brings the Church's Easter season to a close, with the dramatic story of Pentecost. In the ensuing weeks following His resurrection, Jesus spent time getting the disciples to understand that He would not walk amongst them much longer and that they would need to begin the courageous work of sharing His love and promise to others.
Pentecost, which means '50th day' occurs fifty days after Easter. As well as now being a Christian celebration, it is also a Jewish holiday which the Jews use to celebrate the end of Passover. This is why there were so many Jewish people gathered together when they were blessed by tongues of fire, symbols of the Holy Spirit. What does Pentecost mean for us today? It is a reminder that we too are blessed by the Holy Spirit which is a call for us, like the early disciples, to show the love of Jesus to others.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the parents who were able to assist at our Athletics carnival this week, ensuring that the day was able to run smoothly. I also acknowledge the students from Mt Carmel Catholic College who, once again, provdided great assistance. Lastly, I thank Mr Hyland for the many hours of organisation that were required. From this carvival, students will be selected to represent our school at an upcoming diocesan carnival. We wish them every success.
Work has begun at school to refurbish the wet area in in our Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) building. This refurbishment will include replacing the flooring which had started to lift and become a safety hazard, lining the brick walls with pinboard material which will add some colour to the space, and create a work space in which small groups of children can gather. The funding for this works comes from the School Enhancement and Debt Servicing Obligation (SEDSO) component of the school fees. I thank Fr Peter for his support of this work. Over a process of two years, we plan to do similar refurbishments to the wet areas in the other classroom buildings.
Recently you will have received a letter explaining access to 'Compass', an online portal in which you are able to access information about your student, update your own personal information and provide notification of student absences. The student reports generated in Week 9 of this term will also be accessible through this portal, as well as opportunities for you to book parent/teacher interviews in Week 10. This portal is already becoming a significant form of communication between home and school, so it is imperative that you keep up to date with any information we provide for you about Compass. There will be a Compass expert from the Catholic Education Office at our school next week to help you with any technical issues you may be experiencing. Details of this appear in this Newsletter.
Wishing you a safe and happy fortnight,
Paul Moroney
Principal
Congratulations to Cadence Sultana and Tahlia-Jade Yule who have both been selected for the South West Wolverines representative Oztag team, to play in the 2019 Australian Championships in Coffs Harbour later this year.
The teams are made up of players from the Camden, Campbelltown, East Hills, Fairfield, Liverpool and South West regions so it is a great achievement that they have been selected and additionally the girls will be playing up a year in the G13 years team.
Congratulations also to Charlotte Yule who has been selected to represent the G10 years team.
On Monday the School Athletics Carnival was held at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. A big thank you to the parents who helped out with place judging, timing, marshalling and starting the races. It is impossible to run a school carnival without parental support. So while it is great that lots of parents come to watch, remember there wouldn't be anything to watch unless some parents helped to run the day. Also thanks to our wonderful staff for your efforts with the students and helping in so many ways to make the carnival run smoothly. A massive thanks to the students from Mt Carmel who ran the tabloid events so well.
Finally a big thanks to our students who took part with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship and enjoyed the activities. The winner on the day was Sauvage (Red) house.
Congratulations to all the students of Holy Family School!!
