Last Sunday’s Gospel…
The readings last Sunday were about how to be close to God by keeping the Commandments. Jesus explained we need to manage our emotions and the small feelings that can lead us to acting in sinful ways. It’s not just about not doing the really big acts. It is what is in our hearts.
From the Principal...
We had a lovely day at the Swimming Carnival with our Years 3-6 students. It was wonderful to see so many more students having a go and participating in the races. And we were very proud of our non-swimmers for getting in the water too. I thank all our wonderful teachers for the work they did to make the day possible, especially the ones who went into the water. Thank you also to our generous parents for giving us a hand. We can’t run these things without you!
We had some difficulty getting permission notes returned. I know it was the beginning of the year but thought it was timely to just let you know why we need them. It is vital we get permission by the due date – not the date of the excursion. Excursions are considered a high risk event and we must take care of our students. While we complete general risk assessments for each excursion, we must also do specific ones according to the students who are attending. There are times that students require adjustments. For example, medication, behaviour supervision, support for anxiety or an injury that needs managing. We are very happy to arrange for this but as you can imagine, if we need to have extra staff going for example, that needs to take a few days to organize. That’s why we must have permission given by the due date or we won’t be able to have students come with us. I can’t expect staff to rush around and get everything arranged at the last minute. That’s when mistakes can be made too and I don’t want to compromise the safety of our students. If you, or someone you know, require translations of permission notes, we can arrange that. And if accessing Compass is a problem, drop into the office to rectify it. If we can’t, we are happy to send home a paper copy with the same deadline applicable. We won’t be telephoning to remind you or ask for notes. I am sure you can understand how unmanageable that can get.
I have had a meeting with the builders about the playground. I am expecting plans in the next week or so which is very exciting! I’ll keep you posted.
Our Beginning of the Year Mass where we will formally present our Captains, Student Leaders and Student Representative Team to the school is this coming Friday at 11.45am. We also have our first assembly of the year on Friday afternoon where our competitive swimmers will be awarded their ribbons. I hope to see many of you on Friday.
PB4L Focus - Common Walkways
Our current fortnightly focus is how students can be safe, respectful and responsible when using the Common Walkways throughout the school. Teachers have taken the time to explicitly teach students the procedures on how to use the Common Walkways. Students are to move around quietly on the Common Walkways during learning time, and ensure that they walk to class lines after the break time bells.
Mount Carmel Catholic College open day for Year 7 for 2024 will be held on Wednesday 8 March 2023 commencing at 6.30pm.
