Last Sunday’s Gospel…
Jesus gave His disciples – and us, a New Commandment. Love one another as I have loved you. This is a challenge because He is asking us to love as God loves, not just as we love as humans. Our love can be imperfect especially if we are hurt, exhausted, frustrated or have experienced some kind of pain inflicted by another person or event. Our challenge is to love through all this, in spite of all this, just as Jesus did when tortured, nailed to a cross and dying he could still say “Father forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing.”
From the Principal...
The Parish based First Reconciliation program is going very well. There are at least a hundred parents and children attending each week from our own school but also from other schools in the parish. Mrs David is providing valuable assistance and Fr Henry is guiding parents and children through learning about this special sacrament we have. It is lovely to work with parish catechists who also come and facilitate groups and answer questions. It is the first time we are trying this model and it seems to be working very well. I am enjoying attending myself, learning from Fr Henry, and seeing our parish flourishing.
Reports have been made available from NESA via the Diocese so teachers are starting on the lengthy but valuable process of writing them for your children. You will receive them in Week 9 before parent teacher interviews which will be conducted in Week 10. More details about interview times and bookings will be sent to you closer to the time.
NAPLAN has been conducted over the last two weeks. You have done a good job keeping your children calm and they have approached the tasks quite happily and with confidence – especially when I told them it is as much a test of how good our teachers are as well as how they are going! The data we get is very useful by way of comparison with what we regularly collect about our learning and teacher impact to make sure we are aiming at the right level and providing the quality education our students deserve.
Planning is well underway for our 40th Birthday celebrations. We are still to finalise some of the preparations and a hardworking committee is looking at making it a memorable experience for us all. More details will follow.

Our current fortnightly focus has been focusing on how students can be safe, respectful and responsible at the Church. Students will be able to model the school rules when they attend Mary Help of Christians Mass. This term students will be given the opportunity to attend Parish Mass with their peers and teachers.

Just a reminder that all students should be wearing their full winter uniform. Lowes have informed us that they have all winter uniform stock available for purchase, however, girl’s winter tunics will be arriving soon.
Please give our school Facebook page a like. We regularly upload photos of students through this platform and would love to keep our school community updated. Select the link for Holy Family, Ingleburn Facebook page.

Ascension of Jesus
On Sunday 24th May we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus - where we remember Jesus’ physical departure from Earth into the presence of God in heaven. You might like to take time to take part in this prayer which I recorded from the Sydney Catholic Schools resource page: Ascension. I will also share this in Compass before Sunday.
Our Lady Help of Christians
We traditionally celebrate Mary Help of Christians Feast Day on May 24th each year. This day has been celebrated in Australia since 1844. As Ascension Sunday also takes place on this day, we have permission to celebrate this day on either May 24th or May 25th. We will celebrate this special day on May 25th. Australia became the first country to have Mary Help of Christians as Patroness. We see Mary as help in our fight against sin. We also see Mary as one who assists Christians in the community. We will share a special prayer with the students and with you prior to Monday. Here is a link to a special prayer you may like to use beforehand.
Almighty God, deepen in our hearts
our love of Mary, Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection,
may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women
of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.

National Walk Safely to School Day
This Friday is National Walk Safely to School Day.
Our students have been encouraged to try to walk to school on Friday. If families live too far away, they are encouraged to park a few streets away and walk part of the way to school.
The objectives of WSTSD are:
- To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
- To promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.
- To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
- To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
- To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults.
- To promote the use of Public Transport.
- To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
- To reduce the level of traffic congestion.
