Last Sunday’s Gospel...
The Pharisees tried to trick Jesus by asking Him what to do with money. He responded with the words, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”. This helps us to understand how to live in the world – making sure we are balanced and just in our actions guided by the fact that everything we have comes from God.
Did you know...
The Pharisees were a group of educated men who looked after the long held traditions of Jewish law. They were in a way legal experts, which is why they clashed with Jesus at times because they disagreed with Him. Jesus interpreted the traditions in a new way – governed by love and mercy and for some things, common sense.
From the Principal...
Welcome back to our last term of the year. Hasn’t it been a strange one? In some ways we seem to have been under this Covid cloud for years but in others, I can’t believe I have been with you for nearly a year already!
As you would have read from the first letter last week, some Covid restrictions have been lifted. Year 5 will be going to camp – albeit a shortened one, and Year 6 will have a big day out even though Canberra has had to be cancelled. Year 6 graduation celebrations will proceed and we are awaiting a further update to see how much we can do. The Cube will host our dinner – with parents, and we will have some sort of liturgical celebration too. The teachers are all hard at work and more detailed information will be provided as we get closer. We have a few contingency plans in place so while things are going to be different, we think the students, and you, will still feel like we have honoured this special milestone in their lives.
A modified form of Kindergarten Orientation is proceeding as well. The Kinder 2021 students will get to have a session with their teachers in a smaller group and Mrs Smith and I will hold a Covid Safe Orientation for parents in the hall – again in smaller groups. This will not give the full community experience we are so lucky to have at Holy Family but we will continue to find ways to try to do that as best we can.
Both First Communion and Confirmation will be held this term and Mrs David has been very hard at work, along with the classroom teachers, to make sure everything is ready for these very important occasions in your family’s life. I look forward to seeing you all at these events.
We will be holding a virtual Grandparent’s Day Concert as well as a virtual Christmas Concert. Classes are putting together performances and while it won’t be quite the same without an audience, the recordings of these will become a lovely memento for the future. Look for them both a little later in the term.
The school photo company made a point of telling me how well mannered the students at Holy Family are and how quickly they responded to the instructions given. The day concluded ahead of time. So very well done to all our students. They are a credit to their teachers and to you!
God Bless
