Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of the term, I would like to reflect on some of my highlights of the last ten weeks: there have been some class excursions and a camp for Year 5; we celebrated NAIDOC Week; Year 6 celebrated Mass with Bishop Brian, and many of them also participated in the Sacrament of Confirmation; we held another vibrant and creative Book Parade; our St Benedict's Feast Day celebration included the very successful Colour Run; some students participated in the Tournament of Minds; students participated in sport gala days and there was success on the athletics track; and last Friday the children got to enjoy the Disco. What a busy place a school can be in such a short period of time! In the midst of these extra-curricular events, there has also been a continued focus on quality learning experiences for the children. The day-to-day learning in a Catholic context is obviously the core of what we do and, as it is not attached to a lot of fan-fair and out of the ordinary excitement, it can go unnoticed. The students and staff are to be acknowledged for all that they have achieved.
This Friday we finish the term with our annual Grandparent’s Day celebration. The children always approach this day with great excitement and have been preparing hard to ensure their grandparents enjoy the day. Please note that while we call it Grandparent’s Day, it is open to any adult who plays a significant role in your child’s life. We look forward to treating them to a special day.
Recently the recruitment process for a new Religious Education Coordinator (REC) for Holy Family was conducted. It is my pleasure to announce that Mrs Deanna David will join our school community in this role from the start of 2020. Deanna currently works at St Therese Catholic School in Sadlier and has had several years experience in the role of REC. I look forward to welcoming Deanna to Holy Family.
I thank you all for your continued support of our school and hope that over the school holiday break you are able to find spend some time with your family. I look forward to seeing you all for the start of Term 4 on Monday 14 October.

Our day would not be possible without the support from our volunteers. WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF HELPERS IN THE MORNING TO SET UP AND SERVE MORNING TEA. PLEASE LET THE OFFICE KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP.
Please DO NOT park in the Disabled Parking bays in the school car park as we have parents with disabilities who have valid Disabled Parking Permits.
There have been occasions when they have been unable to use the bays as they are occupied with cars that do not have a valid permit. Your co-operation on the use and safety of the school car park is appreciated.
The Grandfather of Aaron (Year 6) and Kevin (Year 5) Naylor has entered Eternal life. Please keep the Naylor family in your prayers. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in the peace of God.
Thank you to everyone who assisted with the School Disco.
The children enjoyed themselves and the parents were great supervisors. A huge thank you to the Parents and Friends Association for your continued hard work on behalf of our students. The support given by the P & F to our school community is greatly appreciated.
What a great night!
ATHLETICS:
Recently two of our students, Kaylee Attard and Keisha Autagavaia, competed in the MacKillop Athletics trials in Homebush. The MacKillop region covers the Catholic schools in the diocese of Sydney, Parramatta, Wollongong, Canberra/Gouburn, Wagga Wagga and Wilcania/Forbes so it is a great achievement to compete at this level. Congratulations girls!
As a result of these trials, Kaylee has progressed to the NSW PSSA Championships for the 100m and the 200m, which will be held in November. She will be competing with the best in the state. Good luck Kaylee!
CHAMPIONS:
In August Eva (Year 5) and Ethan (Year 2) De Guzman competed at the Australian Taekwondo National selections and both qualified with Eva winning gold taking the NSW State Champion title, Ethan received bronze.
On 6-8 September they both competed for the Australian Taekwondo Nationals championships at the Gold Coast. Eva competed with 10-11 years girls division against South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.
Eva won gold and she is now the Australian National Champion in that division. Ethan competed with the 8-9 years boys division against all States in Australia. Ethan won four fights to also claim gold and was crowned the Australian National Champion.
CRICKET GALA DAY:
Well done to the students who participated in the Cricket Gala Day. There were some budding Elyse Perrys and Steve Smiths amongst the group!
At the end of the day, both the senior boys and senior girls made it into their respective finals, with the girls' team coming away as victors. They will now progress to the next round of games to be played in Term 4. Well done Teams!
