Last Sunday’s Gospel

In this passage, Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life," a statement that caused confusion at that time. They knew Jesus as the son of Joseph and Mary, who were ordinary people from Nazareth, so the idea that He had come down from heaven was hard for them to accept.

This passage encourages us to open our hearts to Jesus' teaching, allowing ourselves to be drawn into the life He offers, and to trust in His promise of eternal life through the Eucharist. As you reflect on this Gospel, consider where you might need to open yourself to God's transformative power, trusting that Jesus, the Bread of Life, will sustain you on your spiritual journey.

58th Annual Catholic Club Mass 

Last Sunday, Our School Vice Captains and I attended the 58th Annual Campbelltown Catholic Club Mass at Mary Immaculate, Eagle Vale. It was a beautiful Mass celebrated by Bishop Brian Mascord and it was lovely to feel so connected to all of our Macarthur Diocesan Schools.

On Tuesday, Bishop Brian came to Holy Family Church to celebrate Mass with our Year 6 students and Year 6 students from Mary Immaculate, Eagle Vale, Mater Dei, Camden, St John’s, Campbelltown, Our Lady Help of Christians, Rosemeadow, St Francis Catholic College, Edmonson Park, St Justin’s, Oran Park and St Thomas More, Ruse. 

It was a beautifully sacred mass and a wonderful part of our Year 6 students’ education journey. We sincerely thank Bishop Brian, Father Henry and members of our Parish Pastoral Council, along with staff from the Catholic Education Office who made the occasion possible. I also extend a heartfelt thanks to our staff for their hospitality in putting a wonderful lunch together for all staff in attendance and for the leadership of Mrs Hampton and Mr Natoli in showcasing our wonderful students and school on the day. 

There was so much feedback on the day from everyone about what a wonderful Parish we are part of and how welcoming everyone from our Parish and School is. I was so grateful to hear such praise as this is what we constantly strive to do and be.

Olympic Extravanganza

On Monday, we celebrated the end of the Olympic Games with our Olympic Extravanganza. For those of you who were able to be there, I’m sure you enjoyed the array of talent that your children showcased. It was a wonderful way to mark the Olympics, which as you know, comes around every four years and also a wonderful way to teach our children about a new country. I was so impressed by what I saw. At Holy Family, we come from many different parts of the world, so it was wonderful to learn about even more countries in such an  entertaining way.

Father’s Day Celebrations

A reminder that our Father’s Day celebration will take place on Friday. August 30th. Details are as follows:

Father’s Day BBQ from 8:20am - 9am under the shelter area of the school. 

Father’s Day Liturgy in the School Hall commencing at 9:15am (Assembly awards to be given out at the conclusion of the liturgy). 

Open Classrooms from 10am - 10:30am.

Book Week Parade

You would recall the Compass notification that was sent out last term that explained this year’s Book Week Parade. Please see below for details, as a reminder:

Book Week Parade will take place on Friday, August 16th, commencing at 11.30am. Our parade will be complemented by a drama based on Mary Poppins' 'pavement art scene'. To support this, each grade is invited to dress up based on the following books:

Please remember that costumes need not be extravagant, many families enjoy making simple costumes using items they have around the house. If the theme is too difficult, children are welcome to select a costume of their own choice

Looming for Winter Appeal

On days when our counsellor Sarah is at school, we've been hard at work looming hats for the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. 

Between August 2023 and August 2024 students have collaboratively loomed 22 hats to be donated to help keep people warm this winter.  Well done to all involved! 

We will continue looming and learning/practicing our crochet for the remainder of T3 and then transition to making holiday crafts in T4.
