Last Sunday’s Gospel and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion
Last Sunday our Church celebrated The Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This feast honors the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. It is a time for us to reflect on the immense love and sacrifice of Jesus, who gave His life for us and continues to be present with us in the Holy Sacrament.
In conjunction with this holy feast, we were privileged to be part of our Parish where many of our Year 3 and 4 students received their First Holy Communion. This sacrament was a momentous occasion in the spiritual journey of our young believers, as they received the Eucharist for the first time. The preparation and anticipation leading up to this day was filled with learning, prayer, and a deepening of faith.
Holy Family’s Biggest Brunch
On Friday, May 24th, our staff and students, with your support, came together to raise funds that were sent to The Cancer Council. As you may recall, our staff donated money that we used to purchase brunch food and drink items that students purchased with a gold coin donation.
Our staff set up the brunch before school and students began arriving at 8:30am to enjoy the brunch together. The atmosphere was alive and buzzing and everyone was so happy to be part of it all. Most importantly, our community was supportive of this great cause and really happy to contribute. In the end, we raised a total of $1052, which included a donation from our canteen who sold hot chocolates on the morning and gave a portion of the sales to our fundraiser.
Thank you, as always, for your support!
Year 6 Camp
Last Thursday and Friday, our Year 6 students, Miss Laidlaw, Mr Natoli, Mrs Berkhout and Miss Hay travelled to Canberra for Year 6 camp.
Throughout the camp, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. They bonded with their peers, supported one another, and created memories that will last a lifetime. The experience was not only educational but also a big step in their personal growth and independence.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the parents for their support and to our dedicated staff for ensuring the trip was safe, enjoyable, and enriching for everyone involved. We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement and look forward to many more adventures this year.

Our Year 6 Canberra Trip
On Thursday 30 May, last week, we had our yearly excursion to Canberra. On our first day, we visited the National Museum of Australia, where we got to explore the different materials, sacred objects, and hunting gear that Aboriginals used to collect their own food, nurture their children, keep their families safe, and search for a clean supply of water. While we were there, we got to understand the extreme conditions that some Aborigines had to live through such as bush fires, crocodile attacks and many other natural phenomenons.
We then went to the Australian War Memorial where we got to investigate the soldiers that had a tragic death in both WWI, and WWII. We also saw a memorial chamber of the Unknown Soldier who had lost his life in War. After the War Memorial, we went to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) where we saw the training grounds of professional athletes from Australia. After that, we went to the sportex (interactive sport room). Lastly, we went to Questacon which is a fun, interactive science, creativity and exploration centre.
On our final day we had an unfortunate experience with heavy rain, but that did not stop us from exploring the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD or Old Parliament House), where we got to see the old Senate and House of Representatives. In the Library we got to do hands-on group activities where we got to explore historical events such as political events, the community, the 1967 Referendum and many more historical events.
Finally, before we left to go back home, we took a look at the current Parliament House where we figuratively defined the current Senate and House of Representatives, where we sat in the viewing room made for students. Before we left we went to a smaller scaled House of Representatives where we did a fun role play of a bill in creation.
While we were in Canberra, we had a lot of fun but our favourite place there was Questacon. Our favourite thing at Questacon was the free-fall slide, the free-fall slide is where we had to hold onto a bar and release to drop down onto a steep, metal slide. Another fun place we enjoyed there was the AIS sportex room. In that room we got to do a lot of fun things like; kicking a soccer ball into a digital goal, half court basketball ground, pull up bar, cycling, and many more fun things. On the first night of our stay, we had delicious butter chicken and rice, when we woke up the next morning, we had crispy bacon and scrambled eggs with hash browns.
Canberra will definitely be a memorable Yr 6 excursion for us to remember!

Semester One Reports
As previously mentioned, Semester One Student Reports will be made available via Compass on Friday, June 28th. Parent / Teacher interviews will take place in Week 10, more information about these will be sent out in Week 7.
For all things at Holy Family, give thanks!
Mrs Amy Smith
Principal
Year 6 students from our school have recently undertaken an education of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Holy Family Communion Student reflections
First Holy Communion Reflections
I got dressed into my dress which was a white dress and the boys wore suits. We went to my First Holy communion. I said goodbye to my parents and we went down stairs to the Parish Office. We got ready by getting into two lines. The front two children carried in bread and grapes and placed the bread and grapes on a table on the altar and then they stood beside the pew where their parents were. We sat down and the mass started and finally, in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, Father Henry broke the bread. We received Christ!
After that we took photos and celebrated with our families and friends. It was a very special day!

Do you want to know what happened during my First Holy Communion?
I got dressed into my beautiful, white dress. Then we drove to the church. My Holy Communion was at 12:00. I said goodbye to my parents and went into the parish office. We lined up then we walked to our pew. The people in the front row brought up grapes and a loaf of bread. There were lots of teachers there including the principal, the assistant principal and other teachers.
Before we received the bread Father said “ The body of Christ “ and we said, “Amen”. After we got the bread, we ate it and made the sign of the cross then walked safely back to our pew. When we got back to our pew we prayed on the kneelers.
After that people that got their First Holy Communion get a certificate. I went to the club to celebrate and my whole family was there. We ate lunch there because everyone was so hungry.
“Hope you enjoyed this”.

Hello! My name is Vincent Bons and, I want to tell you about my first Holy Communion, everybody at the 10:30 session gathered together below the church in the parish office. Everybody there looked completely amazing!
We lined up in order, from the left line to the right line and walked to the church in order, with Mrs.Smith and Father Henry leading us and behind us were Mrs.Roberts, Mr.Leibrandt, Miss Soleman, Miss Laidlaw, Miss Moribito and in front of us, Mrs Berkhout. We walked up the aisle and stood next to the little cross on the sides of our pews. Two children took the bread and grapes to the altar and stood next to their pews. Once Father Henry bowed down to kiss the altar, we all stepped into our pews to remain standing .Father Henry did the Homily and the liturgy of the word and the Gospel acclamations, and then the part that we went there for…The Communion…
We all formed two lines and the priest blessed the bread by saying,”The bread of life,”And when receiving the bread we say “amen”. We then stepped to the side and made the sign of the cross and walked back to our pews. After that, Mrs Katon announced the following certificates. Mine was handed out 4th.
After the Concluding rites, our family took family photos with each other and I got a photo with my friend Vase. I also got some photos with my Nonna,my Nonno,my cousins and my Nanny. After that, my family and I went to a fancy Italian restaurant. I had an amazing time and an amazing day.

Do you know what happens during communion? Well the bread gets blessed by father but it’s not a loaf of bread it’s Jesus’ body, which it only becomes when father blesses it. Eucharist is also another name for the bread, but Eucharist is a much better name because people don’t just say bread is just a loaf of bread! When you're about to eat the Eucharist you get into two long lines down the aisle, one line is served by father and the other is served by an altar server. Now you might be wondering what is an altar server? As a matter of fact they are people who help the priest and it is advised that father needs at least one altar server during the mass. What do altar servers wear you might ask? It’s almost like a long white dress but it’s called an alb. The special bowl that the priest serves the bread in is called a Suboriam and the wine cup is called a Chalice. The priest represents Jesus, if you pay attention you’ll see when father blesses the bread and wine he does and says what Jesus did at the last supper. And if you think about that means the priest represents Jesus! There is no exact dress code for your first communion but for girls you need to wear a fancy white dress but for boys they wear a fancy suit. Communion is one of the most special sacraments as you’re receiving Jesus.
