RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REPORT with Mrs David
I hope that your week has been enjoyable and that everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day!
Mothers Liturgy
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day liturgy on Friday afternoon despite the recent rain. We received such positive feedback - we all enjoyed watching Year 1 lead us through the Gospel passage and children read reflections on their mothers and mother figures. We had a chance to reflect on the privilege of motherhood but were also able to reflect on our role as “gardeners” - to nurture our children's growth.
We thank everyone that was able to attend or assist us in preparing for the day. We also publicly thank Mrs Sharon Day for being so brave to reflect on motherhood with us all.
Sacrament & Liturgical Celebrations Update
Sacrament of Confirmation
Year 6 are busily getting ready for the Sacrament of Confirmation taking place on Sunday 25th July. Year 6 parents are reminded to return their notes and money to the school office where it will then be passed onto Fr Sean. We are still waiting on a confirmed time for the Sacrament of Confirmation Mass. We will let you know about the time as soon as we know.
Sacrament of First Holy Communion
We are still waiting on a confirmed date for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. We will let you know when we know.
Project Compassion
Congratulations everyone on our fundraising efforts for Project Compassion. We raised $959.20.
Mothers Day
May, Month of the Month Dedicated to Mary
May is the month dedicated to Mary, whom we honour as the Mother of God. We recognise Mary as the one who listened and responded to the call of God. On the 24th of May we honour Mary Our Lady of Help Christians, the Patron Saint of Australia.
Last Monday we introduced the Angelus to the students. It is a prayer that is special in the Catholic tradition and is based on the Annunciation.
This Sunday’s Gospel Reading (Based on LiturgyHelp Children’s Liturgy)
This Sunday we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. We were not abandoned when Jesus ascended into heaven. The Holy Spirit is with us to strengthen us and empower us to spread the Good News of our salvation.
Do you know the words for the Angelus? Here they are in case you didn’t!
The Angelus
The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary...)
Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to thy word. (Hail Mary...)
And the Word was made Flesh.
And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary...)
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts;
that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made
known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and
Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.
